With the new GCSE grading for both English and Mathematics, we do not know how the numbered grades (9-1) will translate into students’ grades. In view of this, the following will apply for students wishing to enter Twynham Sixth Form in September 2017:
Our general entry requirements are:
- Four Bs and two Cs, including English and Mathematics.
- A grade 4 will be the equivalent of the current grade C.
- If a particular course currently requires a grade B in English or Mathematics, we would prefer a grade 6, but will consider students with a grade 5 if their GCSE grades in their other subjects are sufficiently strong.
Please note that we will only recognise qualifications which are included in the DFE performance tables for secondary schools.
Students applying from overseas should contact the Sixth Form Office directly to discuss entry requirements.
This tariff applies to most course options. However, some subject combinations do not require this. For example, a student hoping to secure a place on a Music degree may apply for Music and Music Technology and two other courses. In this case the standard entry requirement need not apply as the student's ability in Music is clearly the key. For this reason, every student who applies to the Sixth Form will be personally interviewed to discuss their plans and potential subject mix. Every interview will be with a senior member of the Twynham Staff team.
Should the interview be successful, an offer will be made stating the entry requirements. We are likely to be oversubscribed and it is therefore essential that you work hard to make sure that you meet the entry requirement that is given to you following your interview.
As well as meeting the academic requirements, we are looking for students who show ambition, are likely to embrace the special culture of our Sixth Form and have the inclination to give as well as receive.
